A résumé on the background of the prototypical publication infrastructure at the Berlin University of the Arts

art, context and the digital realm

This text emerges from the work carried out over the past four years at the Berlin University of the Arts. Based on the efforts of my team and myself, a prototypical publication infrastructure was developed and tested, enabling students to present physical works and designs in a digital public sphere without reducing their contextual backgrounds. This refers to the exhibition system as part of udk/spaces, which was in use between 2021 and 2024 and further developed in iterative cycles. The following pages compile fundamental concepts, observations, and decisions from this process. At the core are two interwoven questions: How can institutionally managed public spheres be organized beyond centralized private platforms? And how can the physical context of artistic work be represented in digital form in such a way that it constitutes an expansion—based on the strengths of the digital—rather than a reduction? The ~40.000 character text will be part of the InKüLe publication which will be released in autumn 2025.
